A tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad has left the city in shock, with stories of panic, heroism, and narrow escapes emerging from the scene.
What Happened?
A London-bound Air India flight carrying 242 people crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport. The crash happened near the Civil Hospital and BJ Medical College campus, damaging four buildings, including a doctors’ quarters and a hostel mess.
Eyewitness Account
Keyur Prajapathi, a 27-year-old doctor at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, saw thick black smoke outside his window while on duty. Soon after, his phone and those of his colleagues started ringing. “It took a few minutes to realize a plane had crashed nearby,” he said.
Prajapathi rushed to the crash site, about 1 km away, and began helping the injured. He shared a heartbreaking story of a young woman with severe burns who died in the ambulance before reaching the hospital. Many others with serious injuries are still being treated.
Rohan Bagade, a medical intern, said he was lucky to be alive. He had just finished lunch and left the mess when the crash happened. “If I had stayed just 15 minutes longer, I might have been injured,” he said.
Ayush, another doctor, said there was chaos in the mess after the crash. “Our friends and juniors have been seriously injured and are in the hospital now.”
The crash happened during lunch hours (12:30 to 2:30 PM), when 150–200 people were inside the mess. Dr. Dhruvit, a PG student, confirmed that several hostels and staff quarters are near the crash site. Many students, doctors, and mess workers were present at the time of the crash.
Another doctor said both students and staff had suffered burns and other serious injuries. Many were receiving panic calls from their families.
Official Update
The medical college has not yet confirmed the number of deaths. However, visuals showed part of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner lodged on top of the hostel building. Fire and smoke were seen rising shortly after the plane took off.

A Rare Incident
This is India’s first major plane crash since 2020, when an Air India Express flight crashed in Kozhikode, Kerala, killing 21 people.
