Israel-Iran Conflict Sparks U.S. Travel Warning and Global Security Caution for American Citizens Abroad

The U.S. State Department says Americans everywhere should be extra careful. The fighting between Israel and Iran is making travel harder and sometimes closing airspace in the Middle East. Protests or attacks against U.S. citizens and places linked to the United States are possible, the warning says.

Security Steps in U.S. Cities

  • New York City: Police say they are following events in Iran closely. More officers are being sent to protect religious sites, cultural centers, and diplomatic buildings.
  • Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles: Officials have also raised security levels, though details are not public.

Possible Threats

  • The Department of Homeland Security says trouble could grow if Iran’s leaders issue a religious order calling for revenge inside the United States. Small cyber-attacks could come first, and bigger ones might follow.
  • Violent extremists might target people or places they believe are Jewish, pro-Israel, or tied to the U.S. military or government.

Iran’s Warning

An adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader said any country that lets U.S. forces attack Iran will itself become a target. Iran also threatened U.S. bases in the Middle East after American strikes hit Iran’s nuclear program.

U.S. Actions Overseas

  • The U.S. has started flights to help its citizens leave Israel and the West Bank.
  • American diplomats in Iraq and Lebanon have been told to leave those countries for now.

Because tensions are rising, U.S. citizens—whether traveling or living abroad—should stay alert, follow local news, and watch for official updates from the U.S. government.
