Mark Zuckerberg Launches Meta’s New AI ‘Superintelligence’ Team, Plans Major Hiring

Mark Zuckerberg is taking a bold new step in the world of artificial intelligence. On Monday, the Meta CEO introduced a new team called Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). This group will focus on building superintelligence—AI systems that can work as well as, or even better than, humans.

This move shows just how serious Meta is about AI. Zuckerberg shared in an internal memo that MSL will bring together Meta’s top AI teams. This includes teams working on large language models, the FAIR team (Fundamental AI Research), and the company’s AI product teams.

At the center of this new setup is Alexandr Wang, the former CEO of Scale AI. Zuckerberg called Wang the “most impressive founder of his generation.” Wang will be Meta’s new Chief AI Officer. Alongside him, Nat Friedman, the ex-CEO of GitHub, will help lead the new group and focus on AI product development.

Zuckerberg believes that AI is the future. He said, “This will be the beginning of a new era for humanity.” Meta plans to spend hundreds of billions of dollars over the next few years on AI infrastructure, hiring, and research.

This isn’t just big talk. Meta recently invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, and that’s how Wang joined the team. The company is also in talks with other AI startups like Perplexity AI, Runway AI, and is set to buy PlayAI, a voice tech startup.

Zuckerberg is not leaving anything to chance. He’s been personally involved in hiring top talent. He’s hosted candidates at his homes in Palo Alto and Lake Tahoe, offering them stock packages worth tens of millions of dollars. That’s a clear signal—Meta wants to lead in AI, no matter the cost.

Of course, there’s a risk. Zuckerberg admits many companies might be overspending on AI right now. But he also says the bigger risk is being left behind in the AI race. He calls AI the most important tech shift for the next 10–15 years.

As Meta’s shares hit an all-time high of $747.90, it’s clear investors believe in this vision. The company is now all-in on Meta Superintelligence Labs, and Zuckerberg is betting that his team can create the smartest machines ever built.

AI is moving fast. Meta doesn’t want to follow—it wants to lead.
