‘New Shot, Huh?’ – Rishabh Pant’s Hilarious Reaction to Brook’s Stroke During England’s Record-Breaking Comeback

England made a strong comeback in their Test match against India after a shaky start, thanks to brilliant centuries from Harry Brook and Jamie Smith. The team was in deep trouble at 84/5, especially after Ben Stokes got out for a golden duck (out on the first ball). But Brook and Smith turned things around with a record-breaking partnership.

Jamie Smith Makes History

Jamie Smith smashed a quick century, becoming the joint-third fastest English batter to score a hundred in Tests. He also became the only England player to score 100+ runs in a session before lunch without being not out the previous day. His aggressive play style perfectly matched Brook’s smooth strokeplay as they added over 300 runs together.

Rishabh Pant’s Funny Moment Behind the Stumps

During this thrilling partnership, Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant had a funny moment caught on the stump mic. When Brook played an unexpected and creative shot behind the keeper, Pant jokingly said, “New one. New shot, huh?” Both players shared a laugh as the shot took everyone by surprise — even Pant, who was standing close behind the stumps.

Brook was eventually bowled by Akash Deep for 158 runs off 234 balls, but by then, he had done major damage with a 303-run stand with Smith.

India’s Early Momentum

Earlier on Day 3, Mohammed Siraj gave India an early boost with a fiery over, dismissing both Joe Root and Ben Stokes. This led to England making an unwanted record — losing three of their top six batters for ducks in a home Test for only the second time. The first time this happened was against Pakistan in 2010.
