India was in a strong position on Day 3 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston. After dismissing star batters Joe Root and Ben Stokes early, it looked like India would bowl England out cheaply. But England’s Jamie Smith and Harry Brook turned the game around with brilliant batting performances.
The day began with Mohammed Siraj striking twice in the same over. First, he got Joe Root out, and then dismissed Ben Stokes for a golden duck (out on the first ball) – his first in Test cricket. At that point, England was struggling at 84 for 5.
But things changed quickly.
Harry Brook played stylish shots, while Jamie Smith batted aggressively. They punished Indian bowlers, especially Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep, with boundaries and sixes. Brook hit three fours and a six off Prasidh Krishna in one over, which gave away 23 runs.
Smith reached his fifty in just 43 balls and kept attacking. He smashed boundaries off Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, and Ravindra Jadeja. Together, Brook and Smith helped England recover and shift the momentum in their favor.

While England’s batters shined, Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna had a rough day. He bowled five overs, gave away 50 runs, and took no wickets, with an economy rate of 10 runs per over – the worst by an Indian bowler (with a minimum of 5 overs) since 2006.
Overall, Prasidh now holds the unfortunate record for the worst economy rate in Test history (for bowlers who have bowled at least 500 deliveries). His high run-rate has become a major concern for India’s pace attack.
