There was a scary moment for Team India on Day 3 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, when captain Shubman Gill was hit on the head while fielding.
The incident happened during Ravindra Jadeja’s over. England batter Harry Brook hit a powerful shot that flew quickly off the bat. Gill, who was standing at first slip, didn’t have enough time to react, and the ball hit him on top of his head.
Gill looked to be in pain and immediately showed his head to Rishabh Pant, who was behind the stumps. He then called for the team’s physio, who came out quickly to treat him. Thankfully, Gill was fine and returned to the field soon after.

Earlier in the match, Gill was seen getting emotional after receiving voice messages from his parents. The 25-year-old had just scored a career-best 269, becoming the first Indian captain to score a double century in England. He also became the first Indian batter to score a double hundred outside Asia since Virat Kohli did in 2016.
Gill’s score broke Kohli’s record of 254* as the highest by an Indian Test captain. He also beat Sachin Tendulkar’s 241* as the highest score by an Indian in a Test outside Asia.
After the match, the BCCI posted a video of Gill listening to his parents’ emotional voice messages.
Gill said, “It means a lot. I started playing cricket because of my dad. He and my best friend are the only two people I really listen to when it comes to cricket. But my dad also joked that I missed out on a triple century!”
Thanks to Gill’s incredible knock, India posted a massive score of 587, their highest Test total in England in 18 years.
