U.S. President Donald Trump has asked Cambodia and Thailand to immediately stop their violent border conflict. He warned that the United States will not continue trade talks with either country if they do not agree to a ceasefire.

Trump shared on his social media platform that he spoke with the Prime Minister of Cambodia and was about to call the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand to ask for peace. He said he is trying to solve a difficult situation and hopes both countries will agree to stop the fighting.

Trump compared the Cambodia-Thailand conflict to the India-Pakistan conflict, which he claimed was resolved successfully. He said, “Many people are dying, and it reminds me of the India-Pakistan issue.”

Later, Trump confirmed that he had spoken to both leaders and that both Cambodia and Thailand want peace. He is hopeful that a ceasefire and peace agreement will happen soon.

More than 138,000 people have been evacuated from Thai border areas, and over 35,000 people have been displaced in Cambodia.
