The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to restart IPL 2025, but only after discussing it with all stakeholders and getting approval from the Indian government. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia shared this update on Saturday.
Currently, the situation between India and Pakistan remains tense, even though U.S. President Donald Trump had announced a ceasefire earlier in the day. Pakistan violated the ceasefire soon after. Due to this, the BCCI had suspended the IPL for seven days on Friday. Two days have already passed, with five days remaining.

Saikia said, “We are watching the situation closely and will consult all stakeholders, including franchises, broadcasters, sponsors, and state cricket associations, in the next 48 hours. After that, and with government approval, we’ll decide when to restart the league.”
A meeting of the IPL Governing Council is likely to be held on Sunday to discuss how and when to resume the remaining matches. Some franchises have already been informed informally that the IPL might resume in a week.
One franchise official said, “It will resume soon, as early as possible,” while another added, “Not before next Friday,” suggesting it may return next weekend.
If the tournament resumes, cities in the south like Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad, and cities in the west like Mumbai and Ahmedabad, are expected to host the 16 remaining matches. IPL 2025 was paused because of increased border tension between India and Pakistan.
There’s a concern about the availability of foreign players. Many have gone back home, and some may not return. Especially Australian and South African players involved in the World Test Championship Final in London (June 11–15) will not be available. With Sunrisers Hyderabad out of playoff contention, players like Australian captain Pat Cummins and Travis Head might also skip the rest of the tournament.
So far, 57 matches of IPL 2025 have been completed. The 58th match—between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala—was stopped after 10.1 overs due to security issues. The BCCI will decide whether that match will be replayed or resumed from where it left off.
There are 12 league matches and 4 playoff games remaining. Originally, Hyderabad was scheduled to host the first qualifier and eliminator, while Kolkata was set to host the second qualifier and the final.

BCCI is waiting for government approval and stakeholder feedback before deciding on restarting IPL 2025. A final decision is expected soon, and matches may resume by next weekend in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru.
