On August 8, the Delhi Metro set a new record by carrying 81,87,674 passengers in a single day — the highest number of journeys in its history. This was done to meet the high travel demand before Raksha Bandhan.

To handle the rush, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) added 92 extra train trips on August 8 and planned 455 more trips for August 9, ensuring passengers could travel more comfortably.

Traffic Advisory for Raksha Bandhan

The Delhi Traffic Police has warned that heavy traffic is expected on Raksha Bandhan, which falls on Saturday this year. Since the festival also falls on a weekend, a large number of people are likely to travel out of the city.

The busiest routes are expected to be National Highway-44 and the Singhu border, with many people heading towards Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, and Chandigarh.

To avoid traffic jams, commuters are being advised to use alternative routes or opt for public transport like the Delhi Metro. Officials have also suggested that people plan their travel in advance to ensure a smooth journey.
