North Korea's Ukraine Involvement Should Not Be Rewarded, Says South Korea

South Korea Urges End to North Korea-Russia Military Ties

In a significant move, South Korea’s Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul has called for an immediate halt to military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. Speaking in Seoul on March 22, Cho emphasized that North Korea should not be rewarded for its actions in the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

Trilateral Talks in Tokyo

Cho is currently in Tokyo for a crucial meeting with his Chinese and Japanese counterparts. This marks the first such trilateral discussion since 2023. The talks aim to address regional security concerns and reinforce the commitment to UN sanctions against North Korea.

Importance of UN Sanctions

Cho stressed the importance of South Korea, Japan, and China working together to enforce these sanctions effectively. The goal is to curb North Korean provocations and push for complete denuclearization. “It is vital that we remain united in our efforts to bring about peace and stability in the region,” Cho stated.

A Call for Global Cooperation

The Foreign Minister’s remarks highlight the need for global cooperation to address the challenges posed by North Korea’s actions. By stopping military collaboration with Russia, the international community can make progress. Adhering to international sanctions is also crucial. These steps are key to ensuring long-term peace.
