Israeli Strikes Kill 4 in Syria—Is a Wider War Brewing?

The Latest Clashes

On Tuesday, March 25, Israeli military strikes hit southern and central Syria, killing at least four people in the town of Koya, Daraa province. The attack came after militants allegedly fired at Israeli troops near the border. Israel responded with tank fire and an airstrike, claiming it targeted militants.

According to Syria’s state media, Israeli shelling killed four and injured several others, including a woman. A Syrian security source warned the death toll could rise. Meanwhile, Israel also struck two military bases in Homs province, targeting what it called “remaining military capabilities.”

Tensions have been high since Syria’s new Islamist-led government took power after rebels ousted Bashar al-Assad in December. Israel has repeatedly warned it won’t tolerate militant groups near its border. Though Syria says it doesn’t want war, clashes keep erupting.

International Reaction

The European Union expressed concern, with foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas calling the strikes “unnecessary” and warning of further escalation. However, Israel insists it’s acting in self-defense.
