EV sales in India

EV sales in India are rising fast. In June 2025, total electric vehicle sales reached 1,80,238 units. That’s a 28.6% jump compared to June 2024. The data comes from the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Association (FADA).

The real hero of this growth story? Electric passenger vehicles.

In June 2025, e-passenger vehicle (e-PV) sales were 13,178 units. Last year in June, that number was just 7,323. That’s a huge rise of nearly 80% year-on-year. The market share of e-PVs also grew, from 2.5% last year to 4.4% now.

People are now more confident about switching to EVs. And this trend is not limited to private cars.

Electric two-wheelers also had a strong month. Retail sales reached 1,05,355 units in June 2025. That’s 31.69% more than June 2024, when 80,003 e-bikes were sold. Now, e-two-wheelers hold 7.3% of the market, up from 5.8% last year.

Electric three-wheelers are also speeding ahead. FADA says 60,559 e-three-wheelers were sold in June 2025. That’s a 15.79% jump from 52,302 units sold a year ago. These e-rickshaws now make up over 60% of all three-wheelers sold in India. This shows their importance in last-mile transport.

Even electric commercial vehicles (e-CVs) saw big gains. In June 2025, 1,146 e-CVs were sold, more than double the 515 units from June 2024. That’s a massive 122.5% growth in just one year.

FADA President C S Vigneshwar said that the PM e-Drive Scheme has played a key role. The policy is helping to make EVs more affordable and accessible for everyone. It is also pushing local innovation and building charging points across India.

“India is moving fast towards cleaner and smarter transport,” Vigneshwar said. “From two-wheelers to buses, all EV segments are rising. Consumers are showing faith in EVs like never before.”

The numbers say it all. EVs are not just a trend anymore. They are now a growing part of India’s transport system.

With better charging stations, more support from the government, and rising demand, EV sales in India will likely grow even more in the coming months. This isn’t just about selling more vehicles. It’s about building a greener and stronger future.
